Big Wight Enduro
19th May 2012
The Big Wight Enduro returns in 2012! First run as port of our Wight Diamond Festival, Big Wight is back as part of Cycle Wight, a great new weekend of Island cycling!
The Isle of Wight is one of the UK's best kept mountain biking secrets! 250 miles of public tracks and bridleways criss-cross the island over a series of lofty chalk downs with breathtaking sea views and and countryside at every turn!
The Big Wight Enduro takes you on a tour of the Islands finest off road riding. From the base in Yarmouth, you'll climb up onto Afton Down and Brighstone Forest, before striking out into the heart of the Island and off the Wight's highest points in it's south eastern corner. And the Islands hills are not to be underestimated! Form the beach at Ventnor to the top of Stenbury Down less than two miles to the north, is a climb that would rival many in Peak District!
What goes up, though... Superb descents litter this course, and the backdrop never lets up, through picture box villages, past rolling farmers fields, wooded hillsides and endless sea views on the high downs!
With four fully signed distance options to choose from, excellent support, catering and on site.
- 80km, 60km, 40km or 25km ride options
- Full route marking on all distances
- Free energy drinks
- Manned support and feed stations
- Transponder timing
- Catering stalls and refreshments
Plus...
Bring the family & make a break of it!
The Isle of Wight is the perfect excuse to make a family weekend or longer break of it! The Island is alive with places to stay, eat and drink, excellent family attractions and beautiful countryside.
And right along side the Big Wight Enduro, we have Beach to Beach; a fun, free ride across the Isle of Wight! Start from the Cycle Wight event arch on Yarmouth Harbour and ride the pretty causeway cycle path to Freshwater Bay. Grab a coffee or an ice cream, and relax by the beach for a while, then ride back to soak up the finish line atmosphere back at Yarmouth.
The ride is just 5km each way, flat and follows a leafy cycle path for most of the route. It's easy to follow, but we'll signpost the whole thing anyway. The perfect ride for the whole family, or for your nearest and dearest to enjoy while you're out riding the enduro. It's fun and it's free to enter! Just register free for Beach to Beach at cyclewight.co.uk!
