Fat Tyre Navigator Racing
New Event Format!
We're shaking up the Navigators with an exciting new format this season: Navigator Dual!
GPS Friendly
Navigator Dual is a fast, exciting format that is bringing a new appeal to the world of MTB orienteering. As well as setting a whole new challenge for experienced competitors, it's a great great format for beginners and newcomers. And to make it even more so, the whole event is now GPS friendly, with GPS allowed in all categories. It's the ultimate event for that shiny new gadget in your life!
Course maps and GPS files will all be made available two days before the event on this website; we'll even be preparing a couple of suggested routes for the Fixed Eight, available on the day by request for newcomers. These may not be the quickest ways to complete that section, but will make it easy and fun for beginners and casual riders to follow!
How it works
The course features 28 checkpoints which you navigate in two stages: Stage 1 focusses on the nearest 8 checkpoints (the Fixed Eight), which have to be visited in number order (numbers 1 to 8) before you get any other checkpoints.
Once you have visited the first Fixed Eight checkpoints in their number order, you are into Stage 2 (Open Navigation), where you are free from checkpoint eight to visit the as many of the remaining checkpoints as you can (in whatever order you want) in open navigation. You have three and a half hours to complete the the Fixed Eight and as much Open Navigation as you can and get back to the finish.
You can read the full event rules here.
Navigator Dual is navigation reloaded for the 21st Century. No compass required, beard optional!
