Fat Tyre Navigator
Autumn Series 2004: Round 1 - Sept 12, Burbage
Following our little experimental three race summer season, our new seasonal format for the Navigators kicked off on a fast Wiltshire course from Burbage.
Some tricky navigation in places caused a few problems as did the windy conditions, but by and large scores were good and returning riders reported a good day on the trails.
It was another overall win for Rick Fetherstone (Mosquito Bikes) who started the season much as he finished the winter season, in convincing form.
Stamping there mark as Rick's challengers for the Autumn series and for placings in our new ranking list (more below) were Paul Smith and Gary Shipp, good winners in the mens team and Nick Calkin (Allparts Auto) who scored another win in Single Vets. Matt Kemp (Red Planet) scored well to place second in single men, but needs to find something extra to make up the gap to Rick.
Speaking of our new ranking system, one of the interesting features will be that it is going to rank all riders against each other regardless of category, based on performance and overall placing at events. On the strength of the Burbage ride, look for Iwona Szmyd, who partnered Nick to Dean to an impressive 510 points in Mixed Team to feature high up the list.
The first (provisional) rankings will be published at the end of the autumn season and will take into account the best 5 performances from the summer and autumn series, and will roll on using that best 5 from the last six criteria from event to event.
The next event is at Ockley on Oct. 17th. It's a new area for the Navigator series, so if you want to scout it out ahead, why not join us at the Ockley Evans Ride on Sept 18th?
