Fat Tyre Navigator
Spring Series 2005: Final round May 8th, Carhampton
The spring series came to a close on the most physically demanding course on the Navigator calendar. The big hills of Exmoor present a test of strength and a few navigational questions too, so the extra half hour available on the race duration was needed just to keep series scoring consistent.
Andy Cotgreave was the overall winner on the day, making use of good local knowledge to amass an impressive 840 points. Nick Calkin (Allparts Auto) was the only other rider to hit the 800 mark, taking Single Vets and second overall in the process.
Winter Series champion Nick Dean didn't make the long trip west, but the Super Vets category still produced some excellent performances in his absence. Local rider Stuart Norman stepped up to take a very narrow victory from Malcolm Rae in the closest fought category of the day.
John Platt and Dean Stacey (Red Planet Bikes) returned to winning ways in Mens Team, as did Annie Marson in solo women. Graham Hughes and Steve Fairman scored their second win on the trot in Vets team.
Special mentions must go to Paul and William Ames for an impressive score in winning the Generation/Family category and also to Navigator regulars Ray and Veronica Osbourne for their first win in Mixed Team. Persistence really does pay off!
With spring behind us, we're moving into the summer season in June, starting at the Hogs Back Brewery on the 12th. before that though, don't forget the biggest Navigator of the year, the spectacular two day Wight Diamond Challenge or the more laid back Trail Ale Trai at the Wight Diamond Festival.
