Summer Series 2005: Round 2 July 3rd, Ockley

It was quite a tight, compact course at Ockley this month, so we weren't too surprised to see three clearances, but some big hills and a bewildering density of trails caused a few problems too.

Paul Smith and Gary Shipp topped out in one of the closest contests we've seen; only 30 seconds separated their course clearance time from that of their Mens Team rivals John Platt and Dean Stacey. Rick Fetherston (Mosquito Bikes) was third overall with another clearance but a few minutes back.

Iwona Szmyd (Mosquito Bikes) was clear winner in the Womens categories with an excellent 630 points, and Nick Dean was only 30 points shy of a clearance in taking Super Vets. Single Vets was decided on time after Sid Hardy and Graham Hildyard were locked on 600 points each; Sid was three minutes quicker and took the win.

Mixed team was a large and competitive field at Ockley. Matthew Merrill and Sophie Trimming scored 550 points to take the win. Tony Moss and Steve Eggington won Vets Team and Phil Slingsby rode well to win Novice Sport in his first event.

The summer series final takes part as part of our Summerfest weekend at Checkendon. We'll be fund raising for the Air Ambulance service with our third Ride for a Flight (including night lapping on Saturday evening this year). There's cycling events going on across the weekend, free camping and an event marquee, so make a weekend of it and enjoy the whole SummerFest atmosphere.
