Fat Tyre Navigator

Bramley, February 26th 2006

John Hill-Venning made it two out of two for 2006, with a remarkable ride that put him a full 140 points ahead of his nearest rival! A course clearance hadn't been expected on the complex Bramley course in soft conditions, and as the field came in, it became apparent that scores in the 500s rather than the 600s would be the top contenders. John had other ideas though and put himself in a class on his own in getting every checkpoint on the course. He incurred 20 penalty points for finishing four minutes late, so missed out on that elusive 700 maximum, but it would be churlish to let that detract from a great ride.

Dean Stacey and John Platt from Red Planet Bikes took second overall, once again for the second month running. The good showing was all the more noteworthy for the fact that the pair were both riding singlespeeds. Impressive or stupid - you decide! Nick Dean won Super Vets and placed third overall, scoring the same as the transmissionally challenged duo, but losing out on time.

In other categories, Nick Calkin took Single Vets and Annie Marson won a very competitive women's contest. Graham Hughes and Steve Fairman took another Vets Team crown, while Dan Unsworth and Elaine Smith were the top Mixed Team.

There are now two Sunday Navigators and an April Evening Navigator left for this season - full calendar here. And don't forget to book up for the big Navigator event of the year - The Wight Diamond Challenge, part of the Wight Diamond Festival at the end of May.
