John Hill-Venning, riding in Single Men, emerged as the clear overall winner in the heavy conditions of the Wantage Ridgeway Navigator course last Sunday. On a day when 500 point scores were rare, his 620 points stood out as an exceptional ride on the day, 30 points up on Alan Millard/Chas Thursfield and Sid Hardy, the winners of the Mens Team and Single Vets categories respectively.
The rest of the Super Vets field are still wondering what they have to do to beat perrenial winner Nick Dean, who took another victory, comfortably ahead of Malcolm Rae and Carl Baldwin. Nick ambitions usually lie in claiming an overall placing, but he was off the pace compared to the younger categories (for once) this time.
Debbie Snow and Robert Bartlett were clear ahead of the rest of the Mixed Team field, while Peter Bagnell and Julian Wilson took Vets Team. Annie Marson won the Single Womens category, despite heavy penalties eating into a good score.
