Fat Tyre Navigator
Cranleigh, March 2009
The combination of some big hills acomplex trail network and a wet (but still fairly fast) surface made this a pretty tough test for many, but apparently not Rick Fetherston, who produced another astonishing ride to clear the course in just two seconds over three hours!
Rick's clearance was one of three on the day (would have been four if Patrick Meldrum hadn't missed the tricky to spot checkpoint six), but no one else could come close to that time. Nearest was Nick Dean who impressed again with superb performance in Super Vets. Ian Cartwright completed the hat trick of clear runs, but still had to be content with a second place in the Single Vets category behind Rick.
Patrick Meldrum was the winner in Single Male in spite of that missed checkpoint, while Julian Hemsted mounted a stron challenge to Nick Dean in Super Vets to finish second there and record the fifth 700+ score of the day.
Iwona Szmyd wasn't far off of that score either, winning the combined womnes categories and placing sixth overall in the process. Dave Brothers and Mark Oxford took Vets Team with a stron 660 points and Red Planets' John and Freddie Platt clinched Mixed Team once more.Tom Bauer and Will Wagner were top of the pile in Mens team
