Round 2 of the summer series visited a new location, Wroughton near Swindon, local territory for our friends at Red Planet Bikes. Thanks to all the Red Planet crew for their help in organising this round, particularly Ivor and Celia for manning the canteen all day and John for designing the course.
Maybe thanks are not what everyone would be offering, as Johns apparently wicked sense of humour led everyone up and down pretty much every hill in the area! Scores were down and penalty points racked up across the board on this particularly difficult so don't feel bad if you 'underperformed' from your usual standard - you weren't alone! The only exception was the seemingly unbeatable Rick Featherstone who amassed a very impressive 540 points, only marginally short of his typical haul. The final event in the Summer Series is on August 8th at Checkendon. This one will be a little different, as it takes place in conjunction with the Ride for a Flight festival where we will be aiming to beat last years total of £21,000 raised for UK Air Ambulances.
There will be plenty going on over the weekend. As well as the Sunday Navigator, there is an Evening Fat Tyre on Fri 6th and an Evans Trail Ride on Sat 7th. In between all this will be the fund raising events - A fun downhill course on Saturday (no, you don't need to be a downhill demon to do it!) and x-country lapping on a private course on the Sunday. There's free camping and an event centre marquee too. So if you're coming along for the Navigator, think about making a full day or even a weekend of it and help us raise money for the Air Ambulance service.
