A great dose of winter sunshine for this round and a great turn out too. Our best attendance of the winter enjoyed probably the best trail conditions we could hope for in February; Woodcote's varied mix of surfaces and gradients made for a highly rideable and competitive course. The only adversity for most riders was a sometimes bitingly cold wind.
Rick Featherstone put his coming in 7 minutes late down to 'bad route choice' but still managed to comfortably outscore everyone else. Nick Calkins 510 points was enough to win Single Vets and place him second overall on the day, while Matt Kemp and Giles Hudson continued their domination of the Mens Team category this year.
Carl and Diane Baldwin came out top in a closely fought Mixed Team event and Annie Marson once again took top honours in the womens categories. Congratulations go to Nick Dean, who has not had the best season by his standards, but was back on winning ways in the Super Vets, while bad luck of the day has to go to John Platt, who was flying to a superb score when a disagreement with a car left him limping in late and losing big points. Hope it isn't too sore in the morning John.
There are just three rounds left in this years Fat Tyre season and as we head into spring, we have definitely saved the best for last!
On March 14th we head south to Duncton for the big hills and blistering descents of the South Downs.
April 18th takes Fat Tyre series for its first visit to the Hogs Back Brewery in Surrey for what should be a very special day. Hogs Back brew our delicious Trail Ale for us and hosted a very successful evening ride and brewery tour with us last summer. The brewery is right on top of a network of trails that will make this round a real navigational challenge, but if the route finding leaves you frustrated, the excellently stocked on site brewery shop will provide plenty of ways for you to unwind when you get home!
The season finale is once again at our dual event weekend on 9th May at Carhampton, Exmoor. Ride the Evans Ride as a warm up on Saturday to get you in the mood for Sundays huge 4.5 hour Navigator!
Three great rides to take you into summer - don't miss them!
