Southern Sportive: 150k South Downs cyclosportive
Southern
Sportive is a fantastic 150k road challenge event that takes in the
best road climbs the South Downs has to offer. And with 90k
and 65k options, the event is open to a wide range of riders and abilities.
The hardened Sportive or first time charity rider will find the Southernsportive a great challenge, the classic course takes in some serious hills complimented by rolling back roads and views out along the south coast. All set in one of the prettiest parts of the UK.
A lot of people will know the South Downs for the challenging 100 mile off road ride along its length or for the famous Ditchling Beacon hill on the London to Brighton. But the real jewels in the South Downs are to be found at the Western end where the vast range of country lanes bisect the massive rolling chalk downs several times, travelling over the tops on their way to and from the coast.
Churchers college at Petersfield sits right under the northern
edge of the Southdowns offering a great start and finish to this new ride.
Great road and rail connections to both London and the rest of the UK also
help to
make this a classic south of England ride.
We have a long history in organising long distance bike challenges, and a long and successful relationship with the South Downs. Winchester to Beachy Head Lemming Trail first ran in 1996 and runs for it's 11th year this year. Last year Trail Break in conjunction with lighting company USE (the creators of Exposure Lights) organised the first ever night event along the length of the South Downs, the incredible 80 mile dusk to dawn MaXx Exposure.
