Coronavirus Information: Latest updates

Updated 24th September

The government “Rule of 6” restrictions includes an exception for organised outdoor sports events “organised in a way limiting the spread of coronavirus. Regulation changes made since this was introduced have not specified any change to this for outdoor events such as ours. We will continue running our events on the basis that they are not a static gathering and can be managed and controlled with regard to social distancing and all necessary aspects of Covid safety practice. We will continue to follow official advice and best practice in running our events. The following is an overview of our current Covid safety plan for events.

We are following guidance given by the government and by British Cycling, as well as implementing our own risk assessment and Covid safety plan. The style of our events are naturally good for social distancing already – outdoors in uncrowded areas, no mass starts, and off road rides of this nature don’t encourage close pack riding. So the focus of safety precautions for us has been to identify where crowding could occur, such as registration, start briefings, catering etc. We have addressed these with measures including the following:

  • Pre allocate start times to spread out arrival of riders at the event.
  • 2m social distancing enforced throughout the event.
  • As many aspects of event base activity as possible will be conducted outdoors.
  • Where indoor activity is required, masks will be mandatory.
  • One way systems will be introduced where needed.
  • Hand sanitiser will be made widely available for use by staff and participants.
  • Cleaning of surfaces will be conducted regularly throughout the day.
  • We have introduced a fast, electronic check in process to streamline queues at registration.
  • There will be no gathering of riders at the ride start, and no group briefings. A rider briefing document is emailed to participants in advance of the event to avoid the need for this and so that riders can be started quickly and efficiently without grouping or queueing.
  • Ride starts will be staggered across a 90 minute period to spread riders out from the start of the day.
  • 2 metre social distancing will be enforced at checkpoints and feed stations. Staff at feed stations will supervise food distribution and filling of water bottles to avoid touching of surfaces and items by multiple people.
  • Riders will be limited to 3 minutes at checkpoints/feed stations before being required to move on, to avoid congregations at those points.
  • Indoor catering at the finish will only be provided if permitted by current government guidelines/restrictions. Takeaway will be offered as an alternative if not.
  • Staff at catering will supervise food and drink distribution to avoid touching of surfaces and items by multiple people.
  • Food service and payment will be managed separately from each other.
  • Contactless payment will be available.
  • Ride results will be published live online for riders to view on their phones, to avoid crowding around a results screen (there will be no on site results screen).

We hope this helps you make your decisions about entering our events. Full, up to date and specific information for each event will be sent out to entrants in the week prior to the event. We’re fortunate that the nature of our events makes them a pretty safe activity by default at the moment, but we’re taking this situation very seriously nonetheless.
